    Introducing Gliders

Some gliders take to each other right away. Other gliders take a few days to "warm up" to each other. The most important thing to remember is that you need to be patient and not rush into placing them together.

Putting two gliders together without giving them time to adjust to each other can be dangerous for them. If you have a territorial glider, he or she will chase and/or bite the less dominant glider and even draw blood.

For the safety of your gliders, we recommend the following steps:

1) Place your gliders in separate cages approximately six inches apart. Let them stay side by side for at least 3 days.

2) After a minimum of three days, switch what your gliders have been sleeping in. What I mean by this is take the pouch or box that glider #1 has been sleeping in and place it in glider #2's cage and take glider #2's box/pouch and place it in glider #1's cage. Let them sleep in each other's scent for a minimum of two days.

3) Introduce the two gliders in neutral territory - not one of the cages. A bathroom works great. Let them play together and begin to get used to each other for at least 30 minutes then place them back in their cages and switch the boxes/pouches back to the original cage. Do this for two more days.

4) After playtime on the third day, place both gliders in the same cage but leave 2 boxes/pouches in so that they can sleep separately if they still want to. When both gliders are sleeping in the same pouch/box then it is safe to remove the extra one. Sometimes this happens on the first night. The longest I've ever had it take was 3 nights.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

1) It is easier to introduce young gliders

2) If you are placing a young glider with an older glider, be sure that the older glider is allowing the new glider to eat and drink. You may need to have two feeding stations if this happens.

3) If you are placing a male with a female that has been with another male, let the female remain in a cage by herself for at least a week to let the other male's scent diminish off of her.
